This January, Women of Hong Kong is partnering with researcher Sneha Roy, Co-Founder of a collective space, for a special workshop that blends creativity with community and contributes to meaningful academic study. We're inviting you to a serene spoon carving session-designed to be beginner-friendly and a great way to facilitate connection-set in the inspiring studio space in Mui Wo. More than just a crafting class, this event is the first of its kind in Hong Kong, exploring how hands-on activities like woodworking can foster social bonds and reduce anxiety.

Who This Is For:

  • The Curious Beginner: You’ve never held a carving knife but want to try a relaxing, hands-on craft in a supportive, no-pressure environment.

  • The Community Seeker: You value meaningful connections and want to engage in a shared, mindful activity that naturally encourages conversation and camaraderie.

  • The Changemaker: You’re interested in contributing to local, groundbreaking research that aims to understand and improve well-being for women in Hong Kong.

Key Takeaway:

  • Leave with a Tangible Creation: Walk away with your own beautiful, hand-carved wooden spoon and the foundational skills of a calming new craft.

  • Experience Mindful Connection: Enjoy the proven therapeutic benefits of working with your hands while sharing the experience in a welcoming, social setting.

  • Contribute to Pioneering Research: Become part of the first study in Hong Kong exploring how creative practices like woodworking enhance social connection and reduce anxiety for women.

Spaces: Limited to 12 participants

Note: As part of this research project, the researcher will be seeking approximately four volunteers from the session for a follow-up interview.

This will be communicated to all attendees, and participation is entirely optional.

We look forward to crafting and connecting with you!

About a collective space:

a collective space (ACS) is a Hong Kong-based, women-led creative space founded by Emmy, a woodworker, and Sne, a therapist. They offer hands-on workshops, classes, and private sessions that weave together making and personal growth, and we also take on custom woodworking projects and furniture restorations. Open to all skill levels, our experiences invite people to slow down, work with their hands, and enjoy the process of creating. From shaping wood to weaving and exploring other crafts, each session is designed to build skills, curiosity, and confidence in a warm, welcoming environment.
